Vaccinating children, or anyone for that matter, does not prevent them from contracting the virus. In general it merely reduces the seriousness of the illness. They can still pass it on. The most effective way to protect the vulnerable is to keep them isolated from the population at large. However that, in my opinion, is neither practical nor desirable.
