Former Palang Pracharath MP Pareena Kraikupt has described the Supreme Court decision, to strip her of her MP status and to ban her from running for or holding political office for life, as a “political death sentence”, echoing Progressive Movement’s Piyabutr Saengkanokkul’s remark that such a move is a gross violation of her basic rights.

The Supreme Court Criminal Division for Political Office Holders ruled yesterday (Thursday) that Pareena, formerly an MP for Ratchaburi province, is guilty of gross ethical misconduct for encroachment on national forest reserves and land reserved for a land reform project. The court stripped her of the parliamentary status and banned her from voting for ten years. The court also barred her from contesting an election or holding a political office for life.

In her Facebook post last night, Pareena said that she had never concealed the fact that she had occupied the land in question. She said that she had told the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that she had utilised the land, without being aware that the land in question is land intended for land reform, because there was no indication that it is land reform land. Additionally, there were no protests from local administration officials over the years until, one day, someone complained to the NACC, she claimed.

Yeah right, sure you didn’t.

She got what she deserved. With a bit of luck others will get the same treatment.

I have never liked her and I do think that being kicked out of parliament and given a 10 year ban is a just sentence.  However, the lifetime ban from politics is a dangerous precedent.

Who will be given this sort of ban next?  This sentence is all too convenient for TPTB to use to eliminate the opposition.

She lost and now is not happy... Good decision of the court and now she can go find a real job..End of politics for her .... just accept it.

The ultimate  corruptionist is in power and remains unpunished for occupying a whole  country

She's an absolute witch.

Good riddance!

She should be facing jail time.

If she had only been running a gambling den or a drug ring, driven over a cop and killed him, or made millions over extravagant lampposts, all would be well

Good point......if she had any sense she should have focussed on drug smuggling and not chicken farming......could be in the cabinet now.

So what kind of sentences did those government officials get at the department responsible for these landowner papers?

And we know why! ????

Love a happy ending.

May she rest in peace...Not!

Stupid woman, that's exactly what it means

at least what she says now is correct. Being banned from politics is a political death sentence;

but that was the point!

Now there is a green light to sentence tens of future forward MPs for lese majeste, which carries much more danger to the establishment than some illegal use of land.

thanarhorn has already lese majeste charge for his exposure of astra zeneca and the whole vax program.

charges would be rolling pre and post election time, to decimate this party at the most sensitive time. Already a week ago the whole party was accused of disrespecting the king for questioning royal budget at censure debate the last year.
Those MPs wont be able to form a new party, as they did the last time, when their original party was disbanded on trump up charges.
They would even go jail for tens of years

I have 3 responses to this.

1.   People in glass houses should not throw stones.

2   Let she who is without sin, cast the first stone.

Mores the pity that more of the current crop of MP's can not similarly get the same treatment

There are those who have already suggested [certainly of the last couple decades] that the base lese majeste law would be exaggerated and unethically tweaked as a broad blanket ruling, straying way away from it's original intent. And will continue to see this particular and prestigious law overvalued and used discriminantly and willy-nilly by the preference of the select ruling classes.

And yet, over all these years and decades, we still haven't figured out the true crux of all issues and problems.

It has been a regular pattern over time. When the yellow/green network sentenced one of its own people (or was lenient in a case involving an opponent), it was a way to pretend being balanced and fair, before hitting hard opponents. You may be right.
