Next year my passport expires but the question is - do I even need a current passport? Is it required for a retired visa extension?

You need a valid permission of stay stamp.

That would mean annual extensions.

There is no pass card because of age.

You need renew, pp.

What is pp country.

Where are you located.

I have been doing my extensions myself for over 30 years(Korat Imm) but each year Imm seems to add more forms and it has become a nightmare. Did extension last month, it took 3 hours. Forms downloaded the night before from the Thai Imm department were declared "no good" must do another form, etc.

If anyone could recommend an agent that will do "everything" so I just need to have photo taken that would be great.

OP after many years on doing the extensions myself I'm looking into agent due to mobility.

Sadly Thailand does not support assistance in that.

Agent will be good option.

My plan is to maintain financial compliance however like you attending immigration at some point is No Go Zone

I contacted ThaiVisaCentre as I thought they were the solution but they said they do not do Korat Imm. My next extension is not until July2027 so I have a lot of time to find solution.

Only thing I can suggest is deal directly with Korat immigration and see if thay have option.

Back to pp renewal you did not indicate pp country.

It's common for folk to use agent for pp renewal

I'm not sure you asked the right question. TVC can get you an extension anywhere in Thailand. But if your immigration office is not one they work with, then your extension will be from a different province. It's up to you to decide if that's acceptable or not.

If you very specifically and only asked them "Can you help with an extension from Korat immigration" then the answer may be no. But they can still offer assistance.

As already stated ......... yes, you need a new Passport.

Regarding you're annual extensions, do you have any friends that can help.
You don't need an agent, anyone can assist you with the application if you have any kind of disability.

Start the process of renewing your pp sooner rather than later, as in this year.

Your OP concerned two things.

Extension and passport renewal.

For USA the process can be done online along with posting application together with existing pp.

Suggest you don't leave this to the last minute.

In addition an agent can do it.

I don't think he needs a medical certificate. I know a guy near Bui Yai, he is 92. His wife does the paperwork.

For long-stay extensions (like a Non-Immigrant O-A visa), your passport may need up to 18 months or enough validity to cover the entire requested period of stay.

So better renew your passport now so that next year you can get a full year extension.

Don't sell yourself short or burn your bridges just because you are 91, as everyone noted get the passport. Aside for immigration you might need Passport one day for banking, I never carry mines I have been successful 20 years using my Thai driver licence or credit card size copy passport but just the other day had to make a payment at SCB, told policy need original passport. Another booking a hotel room you just never know.

I understand every immigration is different but how many different pages one needs to download beside the TM7, plus if you have been doing yourself for 31 years?

should have been noting all the docs as soon as done prepare your extension package for next year by xeroxing the require pages from your passport.

You noted 3 hours I doubt you are there for that long running around obtaining missing forms and pages. Noted you go no where so how many pages we talking on your passport?

First renewal passport when you do ask for letter from your embassy so you can go back to immigration with new and old passport have all the stamps transfered.

Meantime look for an agent regardless.

At least the British and US Embassies have stopped doing those letters. Likely others as well. No point in asking for something they don't provide.

get the passport done, without that there will be no legal way that you can stay in Thailand, if your country issues ten year passport just do it now

I'd add that there's no downside to starting the process now, and there are risks that it may not go as smoothly (or quickly) as in the past, given tightening security around identity theft and being gone for 31 years. Not that I have any specific information, expecially since I don't know the OP's nationality. But, better safe than sorry.

Correct, I am US citizen. Ten years ago renewed my PP via US Thai embassy. Wasn't that hard.

10 years ago you may had needed to go to embassy in person.

Realizing it would be rare (in fact, a black swan event), the OP wouldn't be the first American whose identity and SSN were filched in the past 10 years and used for nefarious purposes while they were out of the country for 31 years.

Best not to find that out when your permission to stay is on a short clock. It can take many months to clean up a mess like that.

It still has to be mailed, payment for new passport and postage for return can be done on line

ZERO reason to wait ( especially at 91) till its 9 year old

all done online expect someone needs go to PO to send it in

Clarification when I refer to him renewing his passport not asking for income verification letter but the letter requesting Thai immigration to transfer his old stamps to new passport!

That letter for transfer of stamps is no longer provided by many countries pp renewal.

Immigration are aware of this.

Aside: here if form some offices require for stamp transfer.
