Medical personnel take a break in between Covid-19 coronavirus testing in a drive-thru centre at a private hospital in Bangkok on January 8, 2021 after the Thai government imposed further restrictions due to the recent outbreak. Lillian SUWANRUMPHA / AFP

Advisor to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Dr. Udom Kachinthorn, claimed today (Friday) that actual daily infections at present may be around 100,000 and this may increase during and after the long Songkran holiday next week, as more people gather together.

Official numbers of daily infections, confirmed by RT-PCR tests, have been recorded at more than 20,000 for weeks, but another sizeable group has also tested positive using rapid antigen tests. Dr. Udom’s estimated figure of 100,000 a day takes into account those who have not been tested and is based on the increasing number of patients on ventilators and with lung inflammations, as well as COVID-related deaths.

Despite this revelation, Dr. Udom said, however, that the government is not preventing people from travelling next week, but he warned that they must strictly comply with basic safety measures, such as wearing face masks at all times, maintaining social distancing and, more importantly, getting booster vaccine jabs, noting that only about 35% of the population have had their boosters, which is considered low.

CCSA clearly don’t talk with the ministry of public health !!!

All irrelevant - the reality is probably far far greater and they are better of mentioning the % of population who have mild or asymptomatic Covid-19 (omicron) - but whats the point, no one will ever know...

The only real metric of worth is hospitalisations with serious symptoms (in comparison with influenza hospitalisations)

Only in their wildest dreams are the daily infections as low as 100,000.

Boosters is a little bit too late for Songkran as the vaccination start doing its job after a week or even 2... and next week is very near... and the cases.. who cares.. whole Thailand knows they are fake as even a few days back the doctors already said that there were in 4 provinces as many positive ATK cases together than mentioned nationwide...And it keeps on going..no more than around 25k a day Pcr as ATK

This whacked  govt really doesn't want to release any freedoms till after next stolen election

Yesterday was 50k predicted today 100k predicted

Yesterday was Grandma's fault for not getting boosted

Meanwhile the rest of the world has moved on & we're doing fine

You do you Junta Thailand

India has a very low count around 1,000 infection/day. Of course most people don't believe it but US CDC considers India as a level 1 country compared to most European countries at level 4, including UK, Germany, and France. It all depends on how many a country tests and reports and what CDC believes.

The 50K and 100K numbers mentioned above are apples and oranges, two entirely different things....

The 50K number of cases was what the government has predicted  the "official" daily new COVID case count, which is based on the limited testing they do, could rise to after the Songkran holidays.

The 100K number is the number of actual daily new COVID infections that one public health advisor to the government predicted might really be occurring in the country, as opposed to the 25K or so daily "official" numbers that get reported lately.

More like the truth, considering the numbers of people around here who have tested positive and receiving treatment one way or another.

So, if my calculation is correct, then entire Thailand will have been infected in two months.

Given the already administered 100+ million vaccinations, 2nd vaccinations and boosters agogo there is no reason whatsoever to do anything after 1 June .........

Just saying ..........

Finally someone has the guts to admit it. The published numbers are a complete joke.
