Crime Teenage Acid Attacker Surrenders to Police, Claims Jealousy
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A 19-year-old woman who hurled a corrosive substance at her former boyfriend has surrendered to police, claiming she acted out of anger after he brought a new girlfriend to taunt her at her workplace and failed to repay borrowed money. The incident occurred inside a shopping mall in Bang Phli district, where the 21-year-old victim was working. Witnesses said the man screamed in pain as the chemical burned his skin, before being rushed to hospital in serious condition. The attacker fled the scene but was quickly identified by police. The suspect, identified only as Ms B, turned herself in to Bang Kaew Police Station, where she was questioned by Pol Lt Col Sthaman Prasertsuwan. She admitted to dousing her ex-boyfriend with a mixture of two brands of toilet cleaner, which she prepared in a cold drink tumbler before approaching him. According to Ms B, she and the victim had lived together for around three months, during which he allegedly contributed nothing to living expenses and borrowed more than 30,000 baht from her to make motorcycle payments and cover other costs. She eventually asked him to leave the shared accommodation, though they continued to see each other occasionally. Tensions escalated after she discovered he had a new girlfriend. When attempts to reclaim the debt failed, she damaged his motorcycle in June, a case still under mediation. Matters came to a head when, the day before the attack, the victim and his new partner allegedly confronted her at work, hurling insults and threats. Ms B told police she bottled her anger overnight before riding to his workplace the next day to “get even.” Spotting him sitting and using his phone, she greeted him with a “peek-a-boo” before throwing the corrosive liquid at his torso, insisting she did not intend to hit his face. Police have charged her with assault causing injury and will proceed with legal action. Pol Col Neti Wongkulab, Deputy Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), on the 11 August, together with the Central Investigation Bureau’s (CIB) communications team, delivered a special lecture on cyber safety to students at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. Held at the Sunandhanusorn Auditorium, the seminar, titled “Cyber Trick! – Online Scams Young People Must Outsmart”, was attended by around 300 students. The event formed part of the CIB’s ongoing programme to promote awareness of cyber threats and encourage responsible digital behaviour to ensure online safety. The session aimed to equip young people with the knowledge to recognise and avoid scams commonly used by fraudsters, particularly in the digital marketplace. Topics included identifying fake online shops, verifying authentic web pages and distinguishing between genuine individuals and AI-generated personas. Following the lecture, participants took part in interactive games designed to test and reinforce their understanding of cybercrime prevention, creating an atmosphere that was both educational and enjoyable. Authorities stressed the importance of vigilance in the rapidly evolving online world, urging students to act as the first line of defence against cybercriminals.
