i see several people use ipstar on this forum. how much is the monthly fee and does anyone use it up north, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai area? what data speed do you usually get, both up and down?

i want to do video phone calls with my kid back home. does anyone use it for video calls? how is the delay? i hear that's the biggest problem with satellite.

I don't have any experience with Ipstar, but the delay

would be the speed of light times the height of the

satellite times 2. Light travels at about 1.1 nanosec/foot.

The satellite systems I have worked on and designed

circuits for typically have a uplink/downlink delay in

the range of a few hundred millseconds.

This can be noticable with voice. But the simple solution

is to talk half duplex .... meaning you talk, finish and then

say "over" or more realistically, just pause, then let the

other end hear, process and reply. No problem.
