BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) – The minister of natural resources and environment has warned a YouTuber against creating a wrong mindset among viewers for catching and keeping 15 hermit crabs.

He said legal action was possible if the content creator caught the animals in a national park.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said he must blame the YouTuber and urge the latter to return the caught hermit crabs to the wild or hand the animals to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources as soon as possible.

Crabs can be a problem!

Thailand once again putting both feet in its mouth with ridiculous over the top faux outrage and outrageous overreaction....

.... Its a bloody hermit crab !!!

... kids love collecting them on the beach.

While I agree strongly with the powers that the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources have in Thailand, I disagree with the juvenile manner in which they ignore the real issues and stand outraged at the utterly insignificant....

Is it Crabs or Lobsters that walk sideways?

Oh please.......grow up.

Yes its wrong to take a creature from its natural enviroment. But throwing around threats and being all theatrical is pathetic.

Dont try to educate, just threaten.

Yes leave it alone a fat bloke with a big gun will be along to blow it away just about now ????

Meanwhile, ZERO concern for the poor and homeless. You have to admire the Thai propensity for ignoring big problems, while threatening legal action for relatively harmless activities.

Me dad ( God rest his soul ) used to keep saltwater tropical fish, that included a hermit crab, he was very proud of this particular specimen, until he came down one morning & found it munching on one of his favourite tropical fish, not a happy bunny at all ????????????

As an aside, it's very difficult to keep tropical saltwater fish in a tank, the PH level, the acidity and salt content have to monitored constantly, anyone who has tried or has currently has them will confirm the difficulty.

How about cracking down on people who throw plastic and glass bottles into the sea?

with millions he has no chance.

I suggest they focus more on eradicating the huge oil leaks seen recently around Rayong.

Tons of crude oil ruining kms of coastline and huge swathes of fish stocks.

Still, I suppose it's easier to focus on a YouTuber who keeps 15 Hermit crabs. If he took them from Rayong's beaches, he probably saved their lives.

I know a lady who once got crabs from hermit.

if it's a Thai crab it will probably walk backwards, round in circles, going nowhere!

Yes, I had the crabs in my Vietnam days, scratch like mad anywhere there was hair. But we are talking about a different crab, I was told that the hermit crab doesn't taste very good so why would there be a problem?

Or stopping China from dumping all their untreated <deleted> in waters near us!!!

A great new slogan to further the tourism

Don't catch crabs in Thailand or legal action possible ????

crabs

More fake outrage from know nothing nitwits. After all, the hermit crab population in Thailand is down to only 97 billion. God forbid someone catches a few.

Just another example of a toxic, "past it's sell by date administration" doing nothing for the people, and focusing on all the wrong things.

I just wonder how this minister of natural resources is going to contact this hermit crab abductor? Send her a DM or something? A stake out at the beach?

As a young lad ,I remember going to the seaside , collecting

crabs , shrimps , starfish bringing them home in a bucket ,

thinking they would survive .....only to have a stinking mess

in the bucket in a couple of days,  but later in life I did learn

how to keep saltwater fish and Invertebrates, and in fact

turned it into a business ,importing from all over the World,

and enabled me to visit many collectors .
