Senior members of the current government on Tuesday denied former deputy prime minister’s claims over the weekend that members of parliament were offered 5-30 million baht each to vote against the government in the upcoming censure debate.

“30 million baht is too much when compared to the time that this government currently has left, which is not that many months left,” Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin told reporters on Tuesday.

The government’s term, starting in 2019, is coming to an end in 2023. Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said last month that the next general election could take place after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s meeting that Thailand will host in November.

Always good to wait for the denial before believing things.

So is this an admission that it does go on?

So, what is the going rate then Mr. Thepsutin?

Can we bribe them to tell the truth?

Excellent quote from the Minister of Justice in the current administration of prayut.

It implies that there is a suitable level of bribery, just not too much.

Time to go on the pay by the month plan I guess.

Start already to makes the voting invalid.... They will stay in power till the end

Of course theres denial ! Anyone actually believe they would ADMIT to taking any money ?

I would think from the frequent general sentiment expressed on here as regards the current government ,if it takes bribes to get rid of them, then by all means, bribe away.

The whole nation is in denial; corruption is rampant in every facet of Thai life and offering & taking of bribes is the norm.

Believe us when we tell you we are not corrupt. We are honest, noble, righteous, selfless, and always have the goodwill of the people first and foremost on our agenda.

And besides, 30 million is just too much. We cannot accept a bribe that generous. That would be totally out of character for us.

Reminded of an old joke:

Man (to woman): Would you have sex with me for a million baht?

Woman: Yes.

Man: How about 100 baht?

Woman: No, what do you think I am?

Man: We’ve already established that. Now we’re haggling over price.

ok, so Thairong, a member of a democrat  party, which is part of the government, accuses unknown political group (alleging to the opposition) for offering bribes to vote against prayuth at censure debate. Also states, that it's not his own party involved.

Minister Somsak, a member of the government, does't deny those claims, but corrects figures to well below 30mln.

Minister Anutin, a member of the government, doesn't believe there is conspiracy involving bribes, to topple the government.

If corruption rumours are true, it's from within the ruling coalition.

Probably again former minister Thamanat "flower smuggler" Prompaw, has now more vengeance (and more "banana" money) to stage the second attempt to topple prayuth. He is a protege of Prawit (the deputy PM with political ambition to become the PM)

During the censure debate in Sptember it was the PM itself being accused, in parliament building itself, of bribery of opposition MP's (some 9 "cobras" voted for him, certainly they were bribed)

"PM denies opposition MP’s accusation he bribed a group of MPs in Parliament"

No wonder why taxes go up and everybody needs insurances. Oil prices will not come down for sure.

Why not.
National sport.
The more you get, the more popular you are.
Is anyone hiding their wealth?
On a salary of let's say 100k a month but having a property worth 50Million, cars for millions etc.
In my country, they would all be investigated.
If you work for the government (as I did) and show wealth which doesn't correspond with your salary, be sure, they will be on your back.

They do investigate those who were/are on the other side of the political spectrum. They will packed the judiciary or stage a coup if necessary.

Hardly likely to admit it but of course everyone knows they'll take the dosh because it's rife in all aspects of society here.

Yeah. Any and every story of this nature just assures us all that these things don't need to be mentioned - it's plainly understood as it's a way of life and how business is conducted.

Largely rhetorical. Why bother.

"Sir, what's that brown envelope on your desk?" - "Ahem, gotta be my sandwich, packed in brown paper."
