Siam Rath published an upbeat story after the Test and Go scheme was scrapped on Sunday. They said the south and Thailand in general was getting busy again.

Yesterday saw 180 foreign tourist arrivals at Krabi airport in the south, the first since Test and Go ended said tourism rep Surat Jaronyothin.

He expected the upswing to continue nationwide as more and more countries including Thailand opened up as the pandemic entered a new phase.

Things were now returning to normal claimed the former chief of the national tourism business association Itthirit Kinglek in a Facebook post.

Phuket had nearly 200 flights a day.

A downside was that only two airlines were servicing Krabi that was still waiting for its international terminal to open.

This website https://www.phuketairportonline.com/flight-status-arrivals-departures/ shows 68 flight arrivals into Phuket today., which doesn't seem to equal 200 flights per day.

You know when a Thai tourism spokesperson is lying?  When their mouth moves.....

180 tourists arrive at Krabi Airport....on how many flights I wonder?????

Only when the Thai Pass and insurance scam is gone. Most or many people worldwide dislike the midnight closing times. It is supposed to be a vacation.  No one want an old man to order them to bed early in the evening.

They usually count arrivals and departures in those figures to make them seem higher but still nowhere near 200.

Visiting Pattaya  recently I was struck by how busy some areas were notably Soi Buakhao, LK Metro,  Soi Lenkee absolutely  booming. They were as bysy as high season. Kasetsin Soi 11 has 5 new very large hi so Thai  restaurants all busy as is Soi 5 Pratumnak and Thai  traditional BBQ places and at the bank holiday weekend roads were jammed. Jomtien  beach Rd is busy  too and Dongtan  beach. It's  all very different  from this time last year

Notice how since the bragging on the 1st day, there have been no reports on daily arrivals?

They should report them on a daily basis like covid infections?

Here are today's arrivals for Phuket. There are 51 arrivals, that's quite a lot I would think and certainly justifies the article's premise and headline.

For the peoples sake, that's good to hear, but the world has changed, Thailand's leadership are determined Thailand cannot and will not change. Two seemingly unrelated issues on a collision course.

If you though Covid was bad wait for the coming crash, that's not going to revive much, and could easily lead to armed struggle as people go hungry and some talented rebel harnesses the discontent.

China won't be let loose until Xi is gone. And they're heading towards economic disaster at a rate of knots anyway.

This is the lull before the party-sized guac dip hitting the fan. Mark my words.

I wonder, are these arrival numbers tourists or are they maybe expats returning "home"?

  • Popular Post

Lots of expats coming and going atm.

As a holiday destination Thailand is less desirable airfares are rising and as said a million times farangs like wine and it is highly taxed to discourage this group.

Flood in????

You realize how desperate they must be when they start describing 180 foreign arrivals as "tourists FLOODING IN".

Whereas we cannot even be sure how many of these "180 foreign arrivals" were in fact tourists. Many of them simply might have been expats finally having a chance to return to their Thai families. As we all know: You can have lived here for 10, 20 or even 30 years, but Thai immigration is still going to count you as a "foreign arrival" whenever you return from a business trip or a vacation abroad.

Pre-Covid I used to be between 8 and 15 "foreign arrivals" every year, for example.

No need to report daily. But, when they make such a big deal about the hugh number of 1st day arrivals, which is expected to be high, and then absolute radio silence, it does lead one to wonder.
