I am currently paying 1,500 baht a month for 256kbbs/128kbbs for IPSTAR SAT 1. Is it worth upgrading? I have the satellie about a year now but it is often painfully slow. I previously used the phone and that was even slower and because of where I live these are the only options. I want to be able to watch TV programs and movies online.

It's worth it if you have IPstar via TOT. If you have IPstar via CS-Loxinfo, not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks George, I do have it via TOT

For 1,500 a month, that means you must have TOT Ipstar. I had the 512/256 and it sucked. I upgraded to 1024/512 and it still sucks. I told my wife to call them and change me to the cheapest they have. I have gotten to the point that if it works at all, I'm happy. With taxes and all the 1024/512 is over 2,700 a month.

Sounds like a waste of money then. Did it suck all the time or just some of the time?

With the 1024/512 sometimes the downloads are VERY fast but surfing is still pretty slow even when things are working at their best. When it's good it's pretty good but unfortunately it's seldom good. Many times it just stalls and is beyond slow. During those times I use my Nokia phone and GPRS.

Yes, TOT Ipstar 256/128 is up to speed early morning then gradually drops to slow dial-in speeds after a couple of hours. So it takes several days to download a film.

Be sure to nag TOT on 1100 as they are not charging dial-in fees. Also the speed often comes back after a call to them.

Why not download films at night time and make CDs?
