NONTHABURI, May 6 (TNA) – The commerce minister admitted that the price of bottled palm oil soared and said he ordered the Department of Internal Trade to work out a reasonable price with stakeholders.

Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said his ministry was aware of the retail price of bottled palm oil which nearly reached 70 baht per bottle and he ordered Wattanasak Sueaiam, the director-general of the Department of Internal Trade, to discuss a reasonable and affordable price with representatives of farmers, refiners and consumers.

70 Baht is cheap compared to the 89 and 92 i saw yesterday.   They have jumped on the Bandwagon with Coconut Oil as well and that's up to 105 when no need for that at all.

Yes, profiteers want to gouge more while the goings good.

These price-control efforts are like a whack-a-mole game.

In other words.

" We cannot  / will not do anything "

There are other oils, at a similar price. Shopping 2 days ago and Palm oil, Soya oil, Corn oil, even rice bran oil varieties under 70 baht a litre. And no shortage on the shelves. Sunflower oil is more expensive and less available, but THAT is the oil in short supply.
