Pattaya — The Pattaya police chief, Kunlachart Kunlachai, says he has tightened security measures in the city and gave an update on multiple recent gold snatching incidents, saying the number of tourists in Pattaya, especially Indians, has doubled after Test&Go’s removal on May first.

According to the chief, Pattaya was one of the national vital income sources in terms of tourism, so while the tourists were increasing rapidly, the Pattaya police enforcement along with other relevant private parties and citizens needed to cooperate in preserving a good tourism city image.

Pattaya depends on tourism for roughly 85-90% of its economy, according to city officials, and as a result, had been devastated during Covid-19. As the city recovers, however, so does the potential for petty crime, with the chief noting that many opportunistic individuals who have suffered economic problems during Covid-19 may be looking to take advantage of what they consider easy victims.

No worries, the Indians usually wear fake gold anyways....

The Indian tourist must be very naïve to be wandering around Pattaya wearing an expensive gold necklace at a time like this.

I will test this theory.

Tonight, 2:00 a.m.   300,000 bath (or it is baht?) around my neck in-front of 711.

to all the ladyboys..... code word is Golddigger.

Honestly, there appears to be more daily gold 'snatches' from ladyboys on Indians, than daily 'I understand you were involved in an accident recently' or 'your computer has problems and I can help you' cold calls from India. Maybe its just Karma !

No change then, snatch thefts [cough] set to continue.

Cops need to snatch chains themselves to safeguard it from ladyboyz. Or create another Insurance for Indians called gold Insurance.....

Haha... The chief of police has a sense of humor!
Since the 25 years that I am living here, "thieving and robbing" by ladyboys on Beachroad always took place.
Even right in front of Soi 9...
It will never change as none of them ever gets caught.
And IF they catch them, they be back on the street in less than 30 minutes.

Why not 'trenchdigger' - more appropriate, one would think?

east to say that --Mr policeman

In all fairness Indians are fair game in the hunting reserve. Let the hunt continue

You mean Pattaya could have a 24 hour period like the movie "The Purge".  Goodness all roads to Pattaya will be one big traffic jam.

The police are more dangerous  than any street thieves
