NHSO grants free medical treatment to children up to 5 years of age

The National Health Security Office (NHSO) encourages people to bring their children aged up to five years to register with NHSO. The registration will entitle the children to free medical treatment.

NHSO Deputy Secretary-General, Md.Prateep Thanakitcharoen (ประทีป ธนกิจเจริญ), discloses that since May 30th NHSO has provided free medical treatment to those up to five years old who do not have any medical privileges. After the children have been registered with NHSO, they will receive social security cards which grants free medical treatment at hospitals selected for them by NHSO.

Children who are qualified to receive free medical treatment must be 0 – 5 years of age, a Thai national, and have a citizen identification number. The hospital they are entitled to free medical treatment are the same as their mother’s. Nevertheless, the parents can change the hospital for their children at a NHSO office.

NHSO reports that there are about 350,000 children aged up to five years old or 9% who have yet been registered to get free medical treatment.
