Seamless Assimilation Into Thai Society

Featured Replies

This is not a troll.

And I mean with Thais and farang expats.

I manage to stay out of trouble there by smiling a lot, staying polite and keeping a low profile.

What's the BM take?

Come here and leave all your money, then go home. That would be as seamless as I can think.

I don't think I want seamless. Well it just seems like less!

I enjoy all the seamy aspects of life here. Isn't that why we come here from the PC overtaxed life in farangland? :o

:o be curtious, make an effort to learn about the people/language etc. and remain alert, it won't be seamless integration but it will be a enjoyable transition into LOS :D

Assimilation into Thai Society? ---- not really possible

Howerever, if you mean, how to survive relatively stress free; that is, indeed possible.

First

Spend some time getting the lay of the land. Meet people. Be friendly. Talk to other people around you. Learn from other's mistakes. Listen for the hidden truth (are the people around you bitter? angry feel abused? ... run away!).

Second

Learn the language and culture. The biggest mistakes made here are trying to put Thai actions into a western social context!

Third

Don't date someone here that you would not have dated back home! (and as a corolarry to JD's dating rule : Don't do tings here you wouldn't have done in the West!)

Finally

No matter how invested you are in Thailand ... do not forget it is Thailand!
