The cruise line, Norwegian Sun, cancelled all it’s sailings to Asian destinations from 11 October 2022 to 25 April 2023, a news report said earlier this week.

This cancellation includes departures from homeports being Tokyo, Japan; Singapore; Hong Kong; and Laem Chabang, Thailand.

The ship will instead be repositioned to Europe for that period and will offer round trip sailings to the Canary Islands.

Likely unrelated to the Thailand Pass, Thai tourists, or even non Asian tourists.   Anyone who has been on a few of these (western cruises running in Asia) know that they are packed with Chinese and overseas Chinese gamblers, holiday makers, and money launderers mixed in for good measure.   None of these folks care about a few clicks and uploads when there's business and gambling to be done.

I don't believe you read the article:
“Given challenging and inconsistent local travel restrictions related to the public health environment in Asia, we have made the decision to reposition Norwegian Sun from Asia to Europe.”

Yep. Some of the most cowardly nations on earth, with regards to Covid, are being left behind. Our hearts bleed for them.

I did, and my response was to the poster who said Thailand Pass strikes again.   Specifically that the local travel restrictions that are causing repositioning of vessels and the cancellation of a majority of Asian sailings are Chinese travel restrictions.

The plus side from the Chinese point of view is that these Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Princess, etc. cruises is that big brother has no authority there.   In fact it's well known that while at sea, the laws are a little more murky.  As long as you don't do anything 'black' and keep things 'grey,' it's kind of a free for all.   Gamble, mingle your money, move some capital within the region...   It's like the old junk pirate days with a beverage package.

Good info - makes these cruises  seem a lot more more fun - more  of an adventure  - like a floating border town!

Might be  good idea, people there seem to be having problems getting on planes.

Everyone knows that a new variant will come along in the autumn and winter.

They will say everyone is at risk as "immunity is waning".

Everyone must have their 4th or 9th or 15th Booster shot.

Asian countries will immediately panic and blame dirty farangs for this.

Borders will be closed.

Meanwhile Europe and the Rest of the World will just carry on as normal.

Welcome to winter 22/23

Well it seems the ship owners connected the dots :“ Given challenging and inconsistent local travel restrictions related to the public health environment in Asia, we have made the decision to reposition Norwegian Sun from Asia to Europe.”
