webfact Posted May 30, 2022 Share Posted May 30, 2022 Daily News Thai Caption: Warning about online dangers Daily News reported that in the last three months alone since RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk set up a center to report online crime the police had been asked to investigate 29,345 cases. Most of these involved Facebook and Line, both very widely used by Thai consumers as social media and business platforms. Pol Lt-Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat outlined how account holders should protect themselves against being hacked so that one hack on one platform did not lead to the other being compromised too. He described this as like having two keys to your house. He said that his chief had set up the report center that had been running since March 1st this year. Ordering goods that were not sent comprising 10,500 cases 2. Being tricked into getting money for online work by providing reviews on platforms like TikTok and Line - 3,599 cases 3. False loans - 2,962 4. Call center crime - 2,274 5. "Hybrid Scams" - 1,368 6. Investment scams - 1,203 7. Fake profiles used to borrow money - 901 8. Ponzi schemes - 808 9. False advertising - 431 10. Romance scams - 293. He urged people to call the PCT (so- called "cyber cops") on 1441 to report online crime. ezzra Posted May 30, 2022 Share Posted May 30, 2022 Sure people sitting home board, not working with no end in sight and no income, the human brain start plotting how to better the situation at someone else expense, namely crimes, you look for how to get quick money with it if possible, and actually am surprised that only 30,000 cases, i would expect many more... zoltannyc Posted May 30, 2022 Share Posted May 30, 2022 I'm glad that RTP is doing this in many other countries nowhere to report and the police doesn't want to deal with it (see USA) Luckily all listed scams listed are avoidable with some common sense, it seems that more serious IT crime such as ATM skimming, QR code manipulation, SIM cloning, hacking into banking or payment processing systems, fake websites for phishing banking info, SWAT-ting is still not an issue in Thailand.
