Conflicting information has led me to ask what number do I put in my UK mobile to send an SMS to a mobile here in Thailand....is it 00166 plus the mobile number (excluding the 0) or simply +66 plus the mobile number?

it's +66 plus the number (excluding 0).

+66  minus the zero from the main number

+44 in reverse

May be a confusion. Years ago someone showed me how to get a discounted rate by dialing 011 first ( may be a little different number, as I said "years ago"). I don't know if the service still exists.
