Thai police used a Taser to restrain a German tourist during a confrontation on Bangkok's Khao San Road after he allegedly directed racist abuse at a Canadian visitor and praised Adolf Hitler.

Marsala Gueye, 34, a black Canadian from Toronto, said he and two Australian friends were eating at a restaurant on the backpacker strip when the intoxicated man approached their table.

Gueye said the man tried to join them and attempted to share a book about Hitler. When the group asked him to leave, he allegedly became aggressive and repeatedly used the N-word.

"He did not listen, and the situation eventually escalated," Gueye said. "He became aggressive, made racist remarks and repeatedly used the N-word."

Footage shows Nazi salute and police response

Gueye said the man later returned and tried to give him a mug. He did not initially recognise the image on it, but a friend told him it displayed a Nazi swastika.

The group moved across the road to get away from him, but the man allegedly followed. Images from the scene shows a tourist in a Hawaiian shirt speaking with a local before walking to the pavement and lying down.

He is then heard shouting slogans praising Hitler, making Nazi salutes and looking towards the group. In the footage, the group asks him to repeat himself, while the man shouts the N-word and says: "Kanye West is my f---ing brother."

Local people reportedly called police amid fears the argument could turn into a fight. Another image shows the tourist charging towards Gueye before four officers step in.

As the man continued following the group, an officer drew a Taser and fired it, causing him to fall to the ground. Officers then told the others to move away while they dealt with him.

Gueye said he saw the man carrying luggage containing numerous Hitler- and Nazi-related items.

Police say neither side sought charges

Police Lieutenant Colonel Komonsit Sawatmongkol, deputy superintendent of patrol at Chanasongkhram Police Station, said officers initially could not establish who had started the dispute or whether either party was a victim or suspect.

He said one foreigner was Canadian and the other was German. Police described the German, who they said was wearing a green shirt, as appearing dizzy or possibly intoxicated.

"The officers told them not to cause any trouble and asked them to separate," he said. Both sides said the matter was over and did not appear to want to press charges, he added.

Gueye later visited the police station to make a complaint, but police said officers had not witnessed violence when they arrived. They said they saw both parties throwing bottles, without either bottle hitting anyone.

The unnamed German tourist was not arrested and was allowed to go on his way after the confrontation was de-escalated. Police said the matter would not be investigated further because the alleged victims did not return to provide further statements.

After all these years you would think Nazis would just end their wrong thinking, but evil is created at home, and there's no way of telling what this man's parents taught him, and their parents taught them. Visit Thailand and have a good time and leave your insanity back home, but that doesn't seem to happen with some.

I gotta say, I've heard a lot of bad things about this Hitler guy.

In fact, IIRC one of his last acts was to kill his own dog.

The more I hear about Hitler the less I like him.

This Dummkopf is lucky he wasn't doing his nazi acts in Australia.

In that country, performing a nazi salute in public is a federal and state crime, rightly punishable by at least 12 months mandatory prison time under federal anti-hate crime laws.

Seems the local RTP don't see racist nazis in the same light despite the PM on September 17th instructing governors across Thailand to act quickly against foreign nationals who break the law, exploit Thais or engage in undesirable behaviour.

I'd rather see prions beds reserved for people who actually commit violent acts. Stoopid as it may be, a Nazi salute doesn't actually hurt anyone.

If it incites and causes violence .. even acted toward him .. then yes, it has real potential to hurt people. Same reason you can't yell "Fire!" in a movie theatre. Creates panic and potential injury.

Australia is a police state run by woke politicians and media...only country in the world where u get 12 months prison for a nazi salute and 3 years for murder ( unless you are a white man) then its 25 to life.

Not a valid comparison. What's next? Throwing people in prison for giving someone the finger? That's as likely to start a fight as a Nazi salute. How about calling someone stupid? Is that a crime, too? What about mean tweets? You're getting on a very slippery slope.

From a pragmatic standpoint, prison beds are scarce and cost the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars a year. Are "feelings" crimes a good use of that scarce resource and those tax dollars? I contend that they're not. Prison beds should be used for crimes with actual victims.

Agreed. I’m amazed that the German was allowed to just go on his way. The facts seem to be very clearly reported here, so it’s strange that the police aren’t able to verify them given that the incident occurred on a busy street.

There appeared to be actual intent by the German to incite racial hatred and we all know about the zoo case in Samui that resulted in two foreigners being sent packing.

It almost beggars belief that this guy didn’t even get a ticking off, even though the police felt he was sufficiently out of control to require a tasering.

So the police let the guy go as the Canadian didn't want to file a complaint at first and when he changed his mind they said they hadn't seen anyone getting hit so nothing wrong.

So it's perfectly fine to walk up the street racially abusing someone constantly 🤯

In Germany: up to 3 years for the nazi salute, life for murder (no exceptions). Nevertheless, I do not see Germany as a police state.
