We reported this week, that a street scuffle in Ho Chi Minh City after a traffic collision on Tuesday sent two people to the hospital with severe injuries, police said.

A 30-year-old man was driving a truck along Road 35 of HCMC’s Thu Duc City when he collided with a car Tuesday noon.

A scuffle soon began, with three car occupants attacking the truck driver with knives and other items.

The trucker retreated to a nearby cafe, where he was pursued and got sprayed with tear gas.

Passersby who tried to break up the fight were also assaulted.

This type of road rage is a bit excessive however road rage has been going on for ages around the world.

However, with the current tensions caused by the rising cost of living due to the Russian-Ukraine war plus rising fuel costs all add to families’ debts.

A crash like this may be the reason tempers flared as perhaps the drivers did not have fully comprehensive insurance.

People are out of necessity having to reduce their monthly outgoings and medical and car insurance is likely to be the first to go.

May incident in Mekong Delta

A van driver who failed to overtake a taxi on a road in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang lost his temper and attacked the taxi driver with a knife.

At the time, Nguyen Ngoc Quang, a 33-year-old man from Cay Lai District of Tien Giang Province, working for Vietnamese taxi operator Mai Linh, was driving his cab on a local section of National Highway 1.

As he made a U-turn near Phu Nhuan Bridge, located in Phu Nhuan Commune of Cai Lay District, a 16-seater van flashed its headlights, apparently a signal to overtake the car, but it failed to do so.

The van driver then made another attempt and managed to overtake Quang’s car this time, before performing a brake check on the taxicab, forcing it to pull over.

A fistfight broke out between the two drivers, with the unidentified van driver drawing a knife from his vehicle to attack Quang multiple times.

The entire road rage incident was recorded on the dashcam of another vehicle.

Dong Nai gang battle

In April, a car accident in Vietnam turned into a full-blown road rage brawl that ended with ten men getting arrested.

After the accident occurred in Dong Nai, two gangs of men began to attack each other.

The men first congregated around one of the cars, where they appeared to be talking to the driver.

Then one man in a white shirt suddenly punched the man next to him in a green helmet, kicking off the brawl.

His friend followed behind him out of the truck, also covering half his face with a kerchief.

But then the man in the green helmet ran over began threateningly pointing his gun at the man with the machetes.

He fired one shot at the opposing group, causing them to quickly disperse.

The man then continued to chase after the cars, wielding his gun in the air as they tried to drive off from the scene of the accident.

One man was injured during the altercation and had to be hospitalized.

As I said tempers can flare up very quickly so beware.
