BANGKOK (TNA) — The government expects COVID-19 and economic situations to improve continuously as the number of new daily cases is stable and new fatalities are below 20 a day, according to the government's spokesman.

 

Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was satisfied with the local COVID-19 situation after the new academic year had started and entertainment places including pubs, bars and karaoke shops had received the government's green light to reopen on June 1.

 

New daily cases were falling faster than expected while new fatalities remained below 20 a day for four days in a row. The prime minister hoped that the COVID-19 situation would improve continuously and would not affect economic stimulation in the second half of this year, Mr Thanakorn said.

I am always struck by the lack of foresight. It is a near certainty that, before the end of the year, there will be another outbreak, possibly B5, in Europe and US. The Thais should ensure that they prepared to respond without getting into yet another panic and unduly shut down everything.

 

Is it so difficult to understand that, just like the seasonal Flu, there will be yearly outbreak, with some [a lot] worse than others.

One would think that is the logical conclusion. Now can we get rid if the mask wearing? 

   Funnily enough the silly Aussies (of which I'm one) have only just agreed to no mask wearing in airports but you still have to wear it on the plane. Go figure. Lol

No more mask wearing outdoors from 1st July.... 

Which means still have to wear masks indoors at airport etc... but at least the new regs are approaching something like common sense. 

 

No more Thailand Pass from 1st July... 

problem with thailand is difficulty and speed to make radical decisions, if they are needed.

Almost daily contradictory statements from the top officials, who don't communicate between themselves.

 

Masks will stay even outdoors, no matter what official policy will be. They became ingrained in thai mentality.

Some masks do stop dust, including PM2.5, so at least some good use for them.

But mask do also stop the other patogen transmitted by air, bacteria, fungus, the other virus (like seasonal flu).

 

As to when the next covid wave will come and how dangerous it might be, now it looks unlikely it will come to thailand soon, say within a month or two.

But Portugal, Germany has very recent spike to 500 cases per 100k, in Germany there are almost 100k infections daily for the last week. 

France still keeps locator form (similar to thailand pass - bar insurance cover) and masks on public transport, including air planes.
