stevebow Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Can anyone please give me some advice. My girlfriend is currently here on a fiancee visa and today i tried to start off the wedding plans, how ever i was informed that her Birth Certificate needs to be translated from Thai to Englsih. Does anyone have any idea where i could get this done. Cheers Steve
the scouser Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Does the registrar require this? If so, can't you argue that her passport is issued on the back of her birth certificate, and is a valid means of ID? If you must get a translation done, there are various agencies throughout the UK, but expect to be charged an arm and a leg. Scouse.

I will call them again Tommorrow and put your point across, but if they do need it doing,do you have any companies in mind that i could use? Cheers Steve
the scouser Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I've no idea what they are like, but you try this lot:- http://www.appliedlanguage.com/languages/t...anslation.shtml Alternatively, the translation doesn't have to be done by a recognised agency, as long as it is an accurate translation. Scouse.

Scouse. Thanks for that Scouse, I have just been on the Civic Centre website and it clearly states that an original Birth Certificate OR Passport is required. I think i will live life on the edge and just turn up without the translation. I dont think they can do to much if its stating the above on their website. Thanks again Steve
BambinA Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 she can do it by herself anyway Documents' form http://www.mfa.go.th/web/804.php How to deal with it. http://www.consular.go.th/modules.php?name...page&pid=95 By the way, both sites are in TH language 200bht / doc. that you have to pay.

Cheers Steve Steve A simple way that sometimes works is just wander down to your local Thai restaurant or grocery store and ask them to do it for a reasonable price. At least in the U.S. the translations need not be "professional," just accurate. Mac
the scouser Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Steve, When you ring the registrar, you can cite to them the General Register Office advice which also indicates that only a passport is required as a means of identification. Obtaining a translation of the birth certificate will be a waste of time and money. Scouse.
the scouser Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Another point which crossed my mind is that you should only give notice to marry at one of the designated register offices which accept notice from a couple which includes a foreign national. I don't know where you live, but one of these should be more used to accepting notice from a foreign national, and might be a bit more au fait with what is required. Scouse.

Hi, thanks for the info. I had been searching for it for like an hour... By the way I am a Thai person, I am applying for a green card next month. I have a question. Now that I have my Thai birth certificate translated into English. Do i need to get it notarized or signed by an authority or something? Or I can just sign it by myself as I am the one who translated it...? Regards, Sun
