You should check with your neighbours.

Let's say you are in San Sai and the guy who answers this post is in Hang Dong - his advice will not hold much relevance for you. Your neighbours on the other hand will be connected to the same exchange as you, and will be able to give you a more realistic idea of what to expect.

If you really need reliable, constant speed above 512 kbps you will most likely need to pay for it by getting a premium package. Otherwise you will need to downgrade your expectations.

In the past, TRUE's cable modem network (available in central Chiang Mai from the west side of the Ping river to the Chiang Mai university campus, was the quickest available.

As for TT&T and TOT, they're services, all things added up, seem pretty much the same - rarely as good or fast as one would like, but mostly functional anyway.

Your first step is to check what phone line you have installed in the house (TOT or TT&T) and then contact that company asking what Internet packages are available, as other ISPs are available on both TOT and TT&T, for example Ji-net, CSloxinfo, Hinet by CAT etc...

I use Hinet by CAT on a TT&T phone line for 999 baht per month + VAT, with a nominal speed of 2mbps/756kbps which means absolutely nothing. In reality, my downloads at any given time will be between 5 kB/s - 30 kB/s.
