BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok has unveiled a plan to improve the city’s ability to deal with ultra-fine particulate matter, noting that more accurate and transparent data on dust sources is essential to its success.

 

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said a digital platform will be used to disseminate to the public information such as the amount of toxic fumes produced by factories and the response of each district office to sources of air pollution.

 

At a recent meeting, he said efforts to address the PM2.5 issue in the nation’s capital will gain momentum once sufficient access to this data is available.

 

He added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is collaborating with universities to analyze and identify the major sources of PM2.5 in the city, as well as to discuss prompt and effective solutions to the problem with relevant government agencies.

 

According to the governor, the BMA is also monitoring the implementation of measures launched on June 10 by the Department of Industrial Works that require factories to disclose data on their pollution levels, as well as a recent public campaign urging motorists to switch to public transportation and for Bangkok residents to plant more trees whenever possible.

 

The agency is now planning to increase the number of PM2.5 measuring stations in the city from 50 to at least 1,000 in order to improve data reporting accuracy.

 

Additionally, the BMA has begun distributing free face masks to vulnerable groups capable of protecting against PM2.5 and communicable diseases, as well as instructing schools and hospitals to establish safe zones or particulate-free areas to shelter personnel and students when PM2.5 levels are particularly high, typically between November and March.

1. Monitor the levels of pollution (always an excellent way to reduce levels)

 

2. Issue facemasks ........just as the requirement to wear them is being lifted.

ICE motor traffic is the largest polluter in the world. And Bangkok, especially under the Prayut regime, has encouraged inxreased ICE traffic through in part centralization of businesses and government.

Restrict heavy trucks, including those for construction to after midnight. (If govt can close the bars at midnight, it can stop all trucks after 6am.) No private vehicles on city roads in the downtown core, London model. Not only will both those reduce smog but also road dust.

 

Time for BMA to DEMAND govt enforcement against burning in the provinces. Ahem, put the brakes on CP's greed.

Sounds like alot of nonsense to me. I will believe it when I see it. The degree to which they have ignored this problem, for such a long time, while it has gotten completely out of control, is mind boggling and heads should be rolling over it. 

 

This is not just the governor's issue. A heavy party of this burden falls on the tiny shoulders of Cha Cha. He has been nearly criminal in his extreme malfeasance of this issue. His grade on air issues is an F. Let's see if this new guy can do anything. And let's hope Cha Cha is ousted soon, so the nation can start some forward momentum.

It should be zero.

Where does all that pollution come from?

We have to hire some experts to find out...

 

 

Not long ago saw something about how they are dealing with this in Seoul, they had these huge vacuum cleaner trucks sucking up dust on the street.  I thought it was silly at first but the before-and-after was impressive.

 

Or maybe they can just get a big big big version of this and put it on a flatbed,
