Thai Rath reported that a woman called Yuwanda, 35, and a man called Bunpheng, 59 were taken to Samchai police in Kalasin after they were attacked by an axe wielding relative.

The assailant who fled on a motorcycle driven by another relative was Bunpheng's brother in law and Yuwanda's uncle - a 62 year old man called Phraijit.

The family are involved in a bitter dispute over 2 rai of land and 200,000 baht in funeral expenses after the death of a relative.

Bunpheng told police that he heard Yuwanda scream and saw Phraijit attacking her with an axe he had tied to his hand. He tried to help her but he couldn't prevent the attack.

They all ended up grappling on the floor in a heap before the assailant was taken away by a relative on a motorcycle.

They needed 50 stitches to their wounds.

Those injured fear a further attack from their relative and are being assisted by a representative from the local authority.
