The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), along with Thai film associations, is organising an outdoor cinema festival throughout the month of July, in hopes of boosting the local economy, especially at night.

Named “Krung Thep Klang Plaeng” (Bangkok Open Air Cinema) the event opened last night (Thursday) at Lan Khon Mueang Town Square. The first movie to be screened was the 1997 Thai film “Dang Bireley’s and Young Gangsters” set in the 1950’s.

While the event organisers told reporters that there was no political agenda behind the choice of movie, it highlights a way of life in Bangkok in the old days, back when the capital was called “Phra Nakhon” and when Thai teens were starting to be influenced by Western culture.

Outdoor cinema nights in the rainy season.

It does not say what the prices are but either way it is yet another great idea to soak the tourists in more ways than one!

You beat me to it ????
