One topic that ex-pats are always concerned about is the quality of healthcare in their chosen country of residence.

This can be difficult to find all the information.

Here we list the top ten SE Asia healthcare ratings according to members of the public.

Visitors to the website numbeo.com were asked to rate their healthcare.

This Health Care Index is an estimation of the overall quality of the health care system, health care professionals, equipment, staff, doctors, cost, etc.

Questions for these surveys are similar to many similar scientific and government surveys.

Each entry in the survey is saved as the number in the range [-2, +2], with -2 having meaning of strongly negative and +2 meaning of strongly positive.

Numbeo then filters the surveys to eliminate potential spam, like people entering a large amount of data which are differentiating from the median value.

To present the survey result, they use the scale [0, 100] for values since it is easier to read for users.

To generate a current index (which is always updated) they use data up to 36 months old.

They include only cities for which there are at least a certain number of contributors.

Their semiannual index is remade twice per year by pushing current index into this historical view.

Here are the current survey results for SE Asia.

Another pointless list.

Whenever a Thailand hospital sees a foreigner with insurance. All they hear is "Ka-ching, Ka-ching."

Not very scientific or statistically based.

Please identify Michael Bridge in the headline listing when posting these stories so I'll know to give them a miss.

The above list only applies to people with high $$ medical insurance.

The cleaning lady earning 500B/day with no fringe benefit and

the vendors in wet markets selling stinky live chickens only get medicines developed in the 1950s.

The showcase Thai government hospitals have up to date medicines, but you need luck to be admitted into those showcase hospitals.

Go to those wet markets and see how many 60+ year olds with swelling ankles.

Very few 60+ year old Americans with swelling ankles due to the advancement of heart & hypertension medications.

Just back from my quarterly checkup with my Cardiologist. A little more blood work than usual along with an X-ray and an EKG, then the meeting with the Doctor. She had set a stent and did two additional angioplasties in 2015. I was very pleased with the care I received here in Chiang Mai. The total bill today? 5143 baht which American Express says $142.75 was charged. Happy camper retired in Chiang Mai.

Mind to share what ka-ching ka-ching means?

It's all about the comparative/superlative competition, as are all manipulated and trivial rankings, surveys, polls and listings - most of which have little to do with anything........except for offering us distractions that most take in with relevance and gusto.

I agree with Pattaya, many feel 10-50 years younger after a trip there. Now, that's some magical healthcare!
