another fraudulent set up

Featured Replies

A friends daughter lost all her bank savings yesterday when she was conned by the people running this web site , she saw it on a gaming site(she is young/student) saying they would return more than paid, she sent 2000 baht and got back 3000 baht so she emptied her bank account to them and got nothing back. She was too embarrased  to do anything about it because she doesnt want to look stupid but has been convinced to go to the police and report it, I have looked up who is for them and while the registrants details are not showing it was registered in the US, the fraud people at the police station should be able to get onto them fairly quickly as she is going to hand over all their other contact detals, bank account she transferred to etc. Might pay to warn family and friends about this website as they appear to be hitting up younger people/students

Like they care who they hit.. the wold is full of con artist, flim-flam men and women, stealing and extortion become big business now and they're everywhere...

My Mrs warned me of phone sending money scams in Thailand, so she wasn't told or she was just the stupid ones they hope to find.

There's a saying among con-men, you can't cheat an honest person. Greed is what traps many people into believing the money tree will keep on bearing fruit, when it's simply the bait to encourage more money from the victims.

I understand that younger people are not so experienced in recognizing scams. But I think some things should be obvious even for them.

Looking at the domain name 4ixkw2uykd.cc what does this tell us? A name which doesn't make sense and .cc for (from Wikipedia) ".cc is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian territory."

A domain lookup quest shows the registrant is hidden.

These are, at least for me, already 3 big red flags.

And if people don't know how to lookup domain details then they can still talk to other people who are able to do that. Like: Father, can you please help me with this. I found this opportunity to make a lot of money. What do you think about that?

She should have stopped after getting the 3,000 baht for her initial 2,000 baht investment.

Don`t bother with the police...they will not be interested is my recent experience.

Obviously she still has to learn a lot, and specifically common sense

url removed. 4ixkw2uykd.cc

Anyone using such an obscure website name is asking for trouble,

Might be better to educate  in general as to internet usage and obvious "red flags".Especially where money is involved and illegal activity.

Another one fooled as they want free money should be the title.

Perhaps her parents/family/friends should have warned her about the stupidity of illegal online gambling before it got as far as it did?

The trouble is if you tell a bank and give details that their bank is being used by a scammer they do nothing. They cant get the police in until money has been lost obviously but the could put a watch on the account and if there is strange activity then put a hold on it. However, I have in the past reported a scammer and even given them the name and account number yet they did nothing.

surprised nobody told her about   “If It Sounds Too Good To Be True It Probably Is/Isn’t”

Your best chance is to tell your friend to educate the daughter in that it´s no such thing as a free lunch.
