Prime Minister Prayut says he is ready for the no-confidence debate in parliament

which starts today and runs through till Friday.

 

Meanwhile the Pheu Thai opposition party said the public could join the no-confidence debate via a dedicated “Line’ account.

 

This will be the fourth and final no-confidence motion against the government before elections due in March next year.


Amnesty International has called for the Thai government to launch an independent, prompt, thorough, and effective investigation into the use of Pegasus spyware a developed in Israel after reports that at least 30 political activists in Thailand had been hacked. 

 

Pegasus has been used by governments to spy on journalists, activists, and dissidents and the Israeli firm behind it, NSO Group, has been sued by Apple and placed on a US trade blacklist.

 

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sitti-punt has decided to  hold more public events in order to boost the economy, saying they are not to blame for the current rise in new Covid-19 infections. However he added

"If there is a sound reason to call off events, then that would be fine. 

 

Police have arrested Fifteen men from Myanmar who had crossed the border looking for work in Prachuap Khiri Khan. 

 

Local residents had reported seeing the group to police, they have been charged with illegal entry and will most likely be deported.

Malaysia customs officials have seized a container filled with  rare animal parts worth some US$18 million sing dollars,  thought to have come from Africa, including elephant tusks, rhino horns and pangolin scales. It’s believed the shipment was on route to China.

 

China's heatwave is expected to return this week with temperatures in the south likely to reach 39 to 42 C. Forecasters say temperatures will be higher for longer and  last some 40 days or through until mid August.
