Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, as chairman of the Olympic Committee of Thailand, is planning to introduce “Muay Thai” into the 2028 Olympic Games in the United States.

Prawit today, July 28th, has ordered the Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund to support and assist the Olympic sub-committee in pushing Thai boxing to the Olympics Games in 2028.

Whilst Muay Thai may be a welcome addition to the Olympics, I rather think that Prawit may not be as influential within the IOC as the OP seems to think.

Not exactly an advert for Thai sport, is he?

Neither Prawit nor the Thai government has any authority to introduce new sports into the Olympics, so the headline is pretty misleading - "plans to request the introduction of Muay Thai" would be more accurate, if less bombastic.

Yes, that's exactly how it works! ????

(But more likely if you're Xi Jinping, not Prawit...)

They wished the could influence that, but it is the decision of IOC to introduce a new sport on the Games, The sport new sport needs several  criteria to be an Olympic sport...

Interesting Netflix series about the Muay Thai gambling rings.  Not really an Olympic sport imho.

One would hope that by 2028 the human race would have advanced enough to exclude all violent sports from the Olympics, as opposed to introducing another one.

What sports would that leave? Table tennis? Maybe you can go with Prawit and demand your idea.
