You'd have to have been living in a cave for a few years to have missed one of the biggest events in modern human history.

The Covid pandemic.

But that's just what a hermit called "Khru Ba Bin Chum" has been doing after he pledged to become a troglodyte for three years, three months and three days.

Crowds of disciples of Thai Yai people - an ethnic group many of whom live in Thailand - were waiting for his emergence from the cave in Muang Ket district in Shan state, across the border in Myanmar.

Sanook had no word as yet on any comments from the hermit and only had pictures of his back whilst praying.

For anyone wondering what a troglodyte is, ASEAN NOW notes that it is a human cave dweller derived from the Greek "trogle" meaning "hole" and "dyein" meaning to enter.
