SARABURI (NNT) - The government is following up on efforts to alleviate or prevent floods in Thailand’s Central Region. The deputy prime minister in charge of national water management affairs visited Saraburi today (15 August) to keep abreast of the water situation there.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon visited Saraburi to follow up on the water situation and preparations against potential floods. He attended a meeting with personnel from relevant agencies, as Saraburi governor presented him with updates on the overall water situation. The governor also briefed the meeting on water resource-related plans and progress in managing water from Pa Sak Chonlasit Dam. The meeting was also informed of the framework for discharging water in areas to the east of the Chao Phraya River.

Three of Saraburi’s districts are currently prone to forest runoffs and flash floods. These include Kaeng Khoi district, Phra Phutthabat district, and Muak Lek district. Certain areas in several districts, including the capital district, are now flooded.

Gen. Prawit revealed he assigned several agencies to proceed with 13 measures established to accommodate the water situation during the rainy season. These agencies include the Office of National Water Resources, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and Saraburi provincial administration. The Department of Town and Country Planning has been tasked with assessing the construction of embankments along the Pa Sak River. This would reduce riverbank erosion during the flood season.

According to the deputy prime minister, relevant agencies were also told to work quickly to ease the flood situation.

As usual, a government minister with no experience, goes and pays a visit somewhere and all he does is tell other people to fix the problem. Then he goes home and forgets all about his day out. A few years ago the PM put himself in charge of flood control and that was another total balls up ! Now we have the toad in charge .

He should get the electric sorted out in Sao Hai Saraburi first cause Im sick of it not being enough power. Lights going dim when showers and ovens turned on. Had to buy a UPS cause I was tired of my TV turning itself off when the power dropped. ????
