“A man’s worth,” the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius once said, “is no greater than his ambitions.” If this is true both for people and parties, then the Bhumjai Thai party’s value is high indeed.

Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Bhumjai Thai’s leader, recently made clear his grand ambitions for the party at a rally in Lopburi province. The party cannot refuse to lead the next government, Anutin declared, if they were to win 200 seats at the next general election due next year. At the very least, Anutin noted, the party was looking to double the number of ministries the party controls from three to six.

As for himself? “Shower us with a lot of votes. Don’t be shy,” Anutin exhorted, “I’ll be the prime minister if I must.”

A touch of reluctance, perhaps, but make no mistake: this is an ambitious party that knows its electoral worth. The question that remains is: is the party broadly correct in its aims, or is it overestimating its own appeal to voters?

Are they actually smart enough to make this joke or is it just dumb luck?

OK but totally apart from that there's another specific point - What  about the large number of votes of the military packed senate when he PM is selected?

Good juxtaposition to place to this article under the one about 'Thai hospitals report stellar Q2 profit as they benefit from outbreak of Omicron'.  Has he been checked for unusual wealth?  If so, he will fit right in amongst the other local politicians.

Of course he can. There is just one step more to do for this man the cement his popularity among the masses. He have to create a specially designed, Anutin Bong: The only one that takes you higher! After that, it´s gonna be a landslide victory.

Yes he can, because in Thailand this is possible... But I hope that Buddha, Allah or God prevent it. The mess he made with the Covid pandemic and his discrimination against foreigners haven't helped Thailand a lot. So if they want go forward none of the current Government must come back, please, please please

…if you must...

Yea sure, you have tasted power without accountability and have developed a hunger.

The only thing he values is his bank balance... he has no ambitions for Thailand except to increase his own revenue stream.

As they all are here and more obvious and more disgraceful the higher you look up the social status ladder.
