Question for how long I can stay?

Recommended Posts

I arrived a month ago on a tourist visa. Just got it extended for another month.

Is there an option to stay longer or do I need to leave at the end of the second extension?

I asked at the immigration office but I really do not understand and they didn't seem to want to help.

What are my options?  It would be nice to be able to stay for 6 months, but if not possible I will move on.

Thanks

Just curious, can I do a Non Immigrant visa for 90 days inside Thailand?

How old are you? Are you married? If over 50 or married there are possibilities to get a non immigrant visa in-country (despite what the post above says).

I'm sure Joe will be along later and will be able to explain the requirements for doing so.

You have several options.

A non O is possible if you qualify. Over 50 etc. However would be messy.

For those married to a Thai can obtain 60 day extension to visit wife.

Border bounce and reenter visa exempt and obtain an extension gives 60 days.

You can do that twice per calendar year.

You can also obtain a tourist visa at embassy or consulate in nearby country.

Vientiane is one example.

Covid extensions are due to end Aug 24.

Keep an eye out for any announcement that date is extended. (doubtful)

you can do a conversion to non imm visa 'retirement' if over 50 (2,000thb), but will need 800,000tb in a bank account in your name only on day of application and have 14 days left on your permission to stay stamp

Tourist Visa gives 60 day stamp and you can obtain a 30 day extension.

Regarding your non O option.

You do have a Thai bank account in your name only?

Ok, thanks. I was going to put the 800K in the bank but was wanting to visit the Philippines.

A tourist visa allows one 60 day stay that can be extended for 30 days.

You could apply for a non-o visa based upon retirement at immigration if you enter on a tourist visa.

Yes, I have a bank account here.  Been using an ATM and topping it up.

I am kinda confused, I asked when I first arrived at immigration about the non-o. They said no problem. Then when I went back to get it they said they could only give me a tourist visa and extension for 30 days. Do I need to put the money in the bank before I apply for the non-o???  Or can I get it and then put the money in an account?

There is translation breakdown.

Immigration can not give you a tourist visa in Thailand.

Regarding a non O application the 800k would need to be in bank account the day you apply.

The application would need to be made 15 days + remaining on your current permit

Well then I got an extension on my original tourist visa when I first arrived for another 30 days.

One more question if I apply for the 60 day marriage visa to visit my spouse. Do I have to do that outside of Thailand or can I do it here?

No.

You can obtain 60 day extension to visit wife after your 30 day extension
