It has emerged that the 43-year-old policewoman, jailed on Monday after being refused bail, was working within Thailand’s Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), the equivalent of the US Department of Homeland security and which reports to the Prime Minister’s Office. The Provincial Police chief in Ratchaburi this week also raised the fact that the woman was 38 years old when she joined the police force in 2017 as one of the many circumstances that are difficult to understand about this case.

A high-profile case involving a police officer abusing her maid over a two-year period is turning into a deepening investigation into corruption which is raising disturbing questions about the accused’s possible links with a Thai senator appointed by the previous junta. The accused woman has told investigating officers that she landed her position in the police through her links with a senior influential figure even though she was over age and only possessed a vocational-level certificate in accounting. The 43-year-old was denied bail by Ratchaburi Provincial Court this week after it was told her victim feared for her safety if she was released.

Assistant National Police Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Surachate Hakparn has assured the Thai public that police are conducting a transparent and in-depth inquiry into the unusual case and circumstances surrounding the high-profile arrest last Saturday of a police officer serving with the Special Branch Unit of the Royal Thai Police.

If you read through the OP in the link it is like one of those horrible Thai soaps become real life

It shows the sick, immoral, corrupt side of Thai culture, the inequality, the nepotism, the head to toe corruption, the arbitrary violence the phu yai's of Thai society feel is their right to administer to anybody below them for whatever reason they like

It really is damning and absolutely shameful so I expect a full on cover up/diversionary tactic to kick in very, very soon...

The sad thing is obviously that few people in Thailand will be surprised by any of this.

The only surprise would be if the influential abuser would be jailed for years.

Also one sad thing is that corruption belong to Thai culture! Happen every level in government and all know what happening! Normal people even take money to sell they vote in election's! Everybody use that to they own benefit. People who pay need something and  people who take money sell something. Other is corruption in higher level or in school system.

Even people who think corruption is not ok, are really happy if they can pay they way out of some sht what they have done! For example some driving accident!

Hand up everybody who has never pay "tea" money in Thailand!!!! If your hand rise, im happy you enjoy your 2 week vacation in LOS!

But everybody knows that that too will be tainted, distorted and rewritten to suit the highest bidder. So, back to square one - again!

nuff said. All corrupt to the core

The accused policewoman told investigators on the case that her qualifications were limited to a high school vocational certificate in accounting.

Certified competent to operate an off-the-shelf electronic calculator.?

Watch this space, lots more stories like this will pop up shortly.  It is just part of the transitional propaganda prempting Anutin's replacement of Prayuth.

Substitute "The World" for "Thailand" and I would agree.

Why single out this country ?

Some women don't need certificates to get their jobs.

Too many people ignore this and pretend that corruption happens only in Police and other government agencies, while the rest of the population are honest and hard working victims of corruption.  The truth is, you aren't going to end corruption if you cannot admit that it permeates all levels of Thai society and all of Thailand needs to work to change it.

It's also a fact that in the rankings Thailand is pretty corrupt compared to most other countries, particularly the not very corrupt ones.
