The Belgium-based Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) has finally approved the certification of the Thai Bangkaew as a new breed of dog, according to Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek.

The Bangkaew is the second Thai breed approved by FCI, after the Thai Ridgeback in 2003. It is registered in Group 5 of the Spitz and primitive dogs like the Thai Ridgeback.

According to the FCI, the Bangkaew is an old breed originating from Bangkaew village, in the Bang Rakam district of the northern province of Phitsanuloke. The breed’sancestry goes back to a cross between a Buddhist abbot’s local black and white bitch and a now extinct wild dog.

our bang kaew is a brilliant dog, she does have a savage streak and no one but my wife & I can get near her but she is a very affectionate dog, she loves being near us and cuddling into us. They are very owner specific dogs and do not take to other people, they do not like to be threatened in any way and protect whatever they pick up, outside of our fenceline when she is on a leash she is very quiet, she protects her domain though when she is back inside the fence. Over all she would be one of the best dogs I have owned over many years, great to see the breed recognized
