Police from the Economic crime Division under the leadership of Pol Maj-Gen Phuthidech Bunkrapheu announced the arrest of two men in connection with a Ponzi scheme.

Akkarawong, 37, was arrested at a PTT gas station in Nonthaburi and Thatthep, 29, in Bang Bua Thong.

They were named in warrants issued earlier for fraud and computer crime.

Akkarawong had claimed he was the adopted son of a former deputy commander of the Royal Thai Police in order to convince investors in the Ponzi scheme of their legitimacy.

Thatthep pretended to be a lawyer, it is claimed.

Losses of 10 million baht with more than 100 victims were early reported in complaints to the police.

Two suspects remain at large, reported Thai Rath

Not at all as disgraceful, as people who still respect such facts and invest blindly without checking. That´s disgraceful and stupid. However, I sincerely hope they find some money to return to the investors as well that the bunch of crooks get to feel a harsh sentence.

Yes, stupid that people get sucked in by greed but disgraceful that people use deception through influencial connections to deceive people. Cultural mores!
