Can anyone tell me what these words mean? I keep hearing them again and again. Sorry I don't have a Thai keyboard, but hopefully you can see from the phonetic spelling.

Jood prasong- purpose?

Gun tee- take place of?

Gun tee ... Are you sure it is not 'thaen thii' แทนที่, which would be 'represent' OR ทันที which means 'immediately'?

Num sieng น้ำเสียง = Voice (intonation, flow of the voice)

Took = hardship, suffering, sadness

gahn feuk fon = practice, exercising ('gahn' makes it a noun or gerund, i.e. practicing, 'feuk fon')

eeung = lopsided, leaning

sala weylah = sacrifice time

sati = wisdom, mindfulness

choot ratree = evening dress (for solemn/festive occasions)

sai jai = take an interest in

Phutibut (should use p or bp for the initial sound) = behaviour, practice, exercise (as in exercise one's duty, not training)

Sa som = to collect

Atayasai = character, disposition

Poo cheow chan = expert, professional

Luk soot = course of study, curriculum

could they have been saying something like "pai gun tee" (ไปกันที, let's go)?

as for the other question, ผล (pon) is broader in meaning and can mean result, effect, outcome, fruit, benefit (n.), etc. often it will be used with another word for a more specific meaning, for example:

ผลการเรียน (academic results)

phon garn rien

เหตุและผล (cause and effect)

het lae phon

ผลงาน (achievements, results)

phon ngarn

ผลกระทบ (impact (on something); influence)

phon grathop

ผลการวิจัย (findings (of a study))

phon garn wijai

ผลไม้ (fruit)

phon la mai

however, i believe that if you just use phon and get the pronunciation right (low rising, short vowel), you will be able to communicate all these meanings fine.

so, in response the the OP's question, gun thee (mid tone, falling tone) means to save oneself a place. one reasonable literal translation would be "to protect a spot".
