BANGKOK (NNT) - The Office of the Prime Minister has granted aid money to health professionals who contracted COVID-19 from their work. These payments were made through a fundraising account set up by the Prime Minister’s office.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) delivered aid money to 137 health professionals who contracted COVID-19 while on duty, in a ceremony presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam.

The payments for these 137 health workers, at 2.14 million baht in total, are the second round of payment from the Office of the Prime Minister’s fundraising account to support health professionals affected by their work during the pandemic. The office has so far paid a total of 10.245 million baht for 300 health workers.

Health professionals who received the compensation are from the Ministry of Public Health, the Department of Corrections, the Royal Thai Army Medical Department, and the Naval Medical Department.

OPM Permanent Secretary Theerapat Prayurasiddhi said the compensations granted are donations from the general public, private firms, and organizations, as well as government officials including the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet.

The fundraising account is still accepting donations, which can be made by making a bank transfer or deposit to Krungthai Bank account number 067-0-13829-0.

This seems to be a change in policy.

I remember a couple of years back when some ignorant government minister was chastising them for becoming infected with covid as if they were being negligent or something.
