Court to announce its interpretation of Gen. Prayut’s tenure length on September 30

BANGKOK (NNT) - The court has scheduled a date for making known its interpretation of Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha’s tenure length as prime minister. The date of September 30 was set after the court deemed it now has enough information from all relevant parties to make the interpretation.

 

The meeting of Constitutional Court justices did not take extensive time. The justices went over documents that were requested from concerned parties, such as Gen. Prayut’s explanation in regard to the accusation against him. They also included the opinions of former charter drafting committee head Meechai Ruchuphan and committee secretary Pakorn Nilprapunt. Other documents included a copy of the meeting record for the charter drafting committee’s 501st meeting.

 

The court deemed the matter of the prime minister’s tenure a question of law where there is enough evidence to make an interpretation. It, therefore, ceased hearing and scheduled the date for interpretation announcement, consultation, vote, and verdict reading for September 30. The time of announcement has been set at 3 pm.

 

The government has assigned prime ministerial advisor Wira Rochanawat to attend the court’s interpretation reading. Maj. Gen. Wira was given the power of attorney from Gen. Prayut to attend in his place, in the former capacity as a member of the prime minister’s legal team.

 

Gen. Prayut made known via government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri that he is ready to accept the interpretation by the court on September 30. He also expressed his gratitude for the moral support given to him by members of the public. Gen. Prayut indicated he is currently performing as minister of defense to his fullest extent in support of the government. He added the military has been ordered to assist people in many flood-affected areas in order for the situation to resolve quickly.
