The organizers of the world-renowned dragon boat competition, “World Dragon Boat Racing Championships,” said they would hold their 2023 competition in Pattaya instead of Hong Kong due to the latter’s stringent Covid-19 regulations.

The competition usually takes place in Hong Kong, but due to China’s and Hong Kong’s stringent COVID-19 regulations that intend to keep the number of COVID-19 patients at zero, the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association thus said they had to hold the 2023 competition in Pattaya instead.

The decision was concluded at the association’s online conference on September 17th, with a confirmation that the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships will take place in Pattaya on August, 2023.

Where is the problem? It isn't at night and the boats are powered by oars not motors.

There is no problem! 'The city that never sleeps' is a cultural reference. I have rewriten it for the joyous insominiacs of Pattaya. 'The CIty That Cant Sleep'. Geddit now?

Suggestions as to hotels with good views of the race course from their balcony's or windows is appreciated.

With Pattaya flooding I'd suggest one about 200m in from the beach and watch them compete with the songtels

Actually it is a poke back at all the posters crying about masks etc in Thailand!

Hong Kong, or Thailand  its all China

Depends where it's to be held. If on Mabprachan lake (like the local competition) then there are zero hotels anywhere near it

And the oars are powered by oarsmen.

Will foreign competitors ship in their own racing shells? If they rent them here from the we'll known Pattaya beach brigade they will find themselves liable for every scratch found on return (rubs hands in anticipation)

Great fun to watch and very competitive…
