The act of giving alms to monks in the morning is deeply engrained in Thai culture.

 

One must usually get up early to catch the saffron clad brigade as they do their morning rounds.

But not anymore!

 

Now a curry shop owner in Samut Prakan, south east of the Thai capital Bangkok, is offering an online service "live" on TikTok.

 

This created a storm of opinion on social media - what Thais call a "drama.

 

Netizens wanted to know if this was appropriate or not, reported Daily News.

 

Their reporters caught up with Worapong, 45, who is the owner of the Hia Ko curry rice and alms shop in the Bang Khong market.

 

He said people could transfer their payments to him and he'd do the alms giving for them with their name on the curry packets.

Each one had some rice and a drink too for 60 baht. 

 

He'd been doing this for nine years but only recently went live. 

 

He denied that this was a shameless way to boost sales saying that he offered a valuable service to Thais living abroad and the bedridden. 

 

He was taking orders every day from 5.30 am to 7 pm should you wish to stay in bed and have someone else do the merit making. 

 

He sells about 60 sets every morning to people who can order while still in their beds.

Providing a valuable service to those who are less able.

No different to people ordering a home food delivery as they can't get out and about.
