BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has stated that it is pursuing approval for extending nighttime business hours in order to revitalize the capital city’s tourism industry.

During a recent meeting hosted by the Thai Hotels Association, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt expressed his support for entertainment venues staying open until 4 a.m., stating that the extended hours support tourism businesses, which are vital to the city’s economy as they create jobs and pay taxes.

The governor stated that the concept, which requires government approval, must be carefully considered and implemented to avoid affecting any parties, especially local residents.

Chadchart added that the BMA is currently working on a number of projects, such as a lighting event along the Chao Phraya River and Klong Phadung Krung Kasem as part of the "Colourful Bangkok Festival" at year’s end, to further promote tourism in the capital.

It would be nice to not feel rushed. 4 am will give a person plenty of time to relaxes and enjoy the night while out and about.

Just get it done .. You need to kickstart your economy

Try 04:00 closing time in designated areas … walking street, bar streets away from residential areas

see if it draws more revenue or problems and go from there….

Why does there need to be a law at all? Let market forces dictate when a business is open. It has nothing at all to do with government, and not just in Thailand. Also, will entertainment workers be paid more to work the extra hours, time many of them now use to go out and party with their friends in Thai-oriented places that somehow are allowed to open until dawn or later.

Easily done.. your operating hours are given to you when your licence to operate is given after a full inspection of your facility and it's location.

Full tourist area 4am, residential area midnight- 2am depending on location.

Was recently in Bangkok and visited Nana Plaza as well as Soi Cowboy and some other nightlife spots. They feel as if they are just hanging on for dear life. Barely any crowds, many spots closed, and not much business.

It would appear the official sabotage of the economy and the nightlife is going to be felt for years to come.

Yeh, only the other day a bar girl was complaining about how much tax she paid.????????

Already happening along Loi Kroh, CNX.

As long as the Roller Shutters are down by 12.15am and the volume knob is at the 9 o'clock position!

I spent a couple of nights in Suk Soi 22 a few weeks ago.  Bars had little to no clients and everything was dead by 2300.  I fail to see how allowing opening to 0400 is going to help the tourist trade.  Just going to p@ss off the nearby residents.

why just bangkok ???
