Hotel clerks have told local Thai media that the American father of a 10-year-old Chinese-American girl who tried to trudge from Chonburi to Bangkok to see her mother, who is apparently in China, was strict but fair and never showed any signs of domestic or physical abuse.

Pattaya Tourist Police went to check on the girl who was found walking alone on a dimly-lit road on September 28th by a Thai Good Samaritan. Tourist Police said they went to visit the girl and her family following numerous concerns from netizens asking for law enforcement to discover why the girl tried to leave her father.

Pol. Lt. Col. Pitchaya Khewplueng, head of the Tourist Police at the Pattaya Police station, told The Pattaya News that he went to an undisclosed longstay hotel and apartment building in the Jomtien area in Pattaya to try to investigate deeper.

He said: “The American father was not so cooperative, and the girl was at school. We tried talking with the hotel clerks, who notified us that the father and his daughter had stayed at the hotel for more than three years. The father was quite strict and talked very little according to the hotel staff.”

Poor baby misses her Mommy...Sad.

maybe the American father is a good parent ... we can't conclude anything based on little evidence.

but why was the girl trying to go to China alone if things were good between the parents?  If the father was ok with that he would allow her to go and arrange transport and everything.

Many holes in this story as usual.

Good luck girl and I hope you find your destination as long as it's not Wuhan.  Say hi to mama for me.

The girl then pulled out her homework and started working solemnly."

Sounds like a controlling A-hole, came down at 5-6 am for water everyday,  First thing he said on seeing her "have you done your homework ? " Jeez poor mite give her a break, she want's to get away from YOU, keep treating her this way, and there is a big risk of her, becoming suicidal. Why is her Mum in China was she peed off too ?

Nowhere for kids to play only for doing homework, and fetching water at 5am !

When I saw that this obviously desperate kid was handed back over to her father without so much as a 'by your leave' or the bringing in of child psychology specialists I was absolutely gutted.

And everything in the article only confirms my reaction. As if any father 'shows signs of being abusive'. Yet his first question is about homework, not joy that she's OK.

That kid needs protecting, the mother bringing in, and an investigation. And if all is then found to be well, occasional follow up scrutiny. Any decent parent would be only too happy to cooperate.

A child's needs are paramount.

A lot of strange statements here.

My sister was 12 the first time that she ran away from home to find her father.

No deep-rooted conspiracy theory - she just missed her dad.

She would run away once a year and I just kept finding her and bringing her home to mum.

When she was 16 years old, I stopped bringing her back.

She found her dad and he told her to brugger off.

She stopped 'running away'.

Tried hard but no clue.

Quite proper with nice pool, modern windows on the balcony.

"Beijing" time clock and "Golden" classy kitsch at the reception.

Some love it.

Girl at international school.

Not a low cost long stay to my opinion.

The girl probably has a reasonably good lifestyle ....   she's in a good hotel and food everyday,  obviously goes to an international school nearby.   She is in a lot better position than most other kids her age in Thailand that's for sure, I'm sure she is never short of lunch money or school wear.

 just sayin '

Something really smells!

I'm a Chinese American born and raised in the U. S.  Lived here closed to 20 years although I'm considered 2nd generation for reasons I consider myself 1st!

My family are as old school as they come along with Uncles.

I would like to know the Hotel in Jomtien and make a visit to the guy.  Strict?  I'm strict girl taking off but there is more to this than meat the eye?  Not cooperative screw that excuse by the time I'm done he be singing in a choir. ????

She's not Thai.

She probably wants some love and affection. Something that Dad seems devoid of giving.

Well we have a fair idea where the mother is "apparently"!

I know. Just wanted to point out that father/family must be financially sound.

She doesn't speak Thai. Sounds like there are no plans to stay indefinitely.

That was you. Lucky you. I'm happy for you.

This is her. Her story may be totally different and that needs investigating. It's not good enough to simply hand her back. Without even contacting the mother.

Nobody has any idea what drove her to do that, and she's not likely to tell a bunch of strangers who are about to hand her back to her dad that she tried to leave behind.

And that strikes me on current knowledge as the most benevolent assessment. Living in a hotel for 3 years? Questionable if that's good for her.
