General Prayut returned to resume his duties as prime minister yesterday following the court's ruling that may see him continue as PM until 2025. When asked about his political future he was non committal and said: The Future is the future.


The PM is due to inspect flooding in Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani today.

 

Meanwhile heavy rain prolonged flooding in parts of the Capital and Nakhon Sawan in central Thailand and Chiang mai, in all some 16 provinces were severely flooded, many residents had to leave their homes and others used boats to get about.


The owners of a house in Pathum Thani are claiming compensation from a bank after their property was seized by mistake on Sept. 5,  a contractor removed belongings, locked the gate and put up a for sale sign.
 
The couple who own the house met bank’s officials and demanded 2 million baht compensation, adding many personal items were not returned or had been destroyed, The bank refused to pay, saying the error was not intentional. The couple are considering legal action. 

 

The Royal Thai Navy has denied reports that it was considering the purchase of German made engines for new submarines due to be delivered from China in 2024. The German engine manufacturer had refused to provide engines to the Chinese submarine builder on subs destined for export. Thailand has turned down using a chinese made engine, 


General Prayut stated the order for the subs may be cancelled if the German engine cannot be installed.

Indonesian authorities are trying to trace who fired tear gas that caused the stampede and death of 125 people including 32 children. 


A senior minister said: just over US$3,000 dollars compensation will be given to each of the families of the victims.

 

Taiwan launched a 24 hour English tv channel yesterday, TaiwanPlus will only be available on the island for now, limiting its international reach.


President Tsai Ing-wen said the new channel would “bring Taiwan to the international community” as it seeks closer ties with “countries that share core values of freedom and democracy.
