BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has joined hands with the popular messaging app LINE to launch a disaster notification service. This feature will allow more people to receive emergency alerts in a timely manner.

This feature is a result of cooperation between the Thai Meteorological Department, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and LINE Company (Thailand).

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the service will serve as another channel to provide timely notifications to more people, catering to the digital lifestyle.

Users on the LINE platform can simply add @linealert official account as their friend on the app to start receiving news and updates in case of a disaster.

In time of need, the service will also provide useful information such as emergency numbers, a list of nearby hospitals, disaster hazard areas, and preparation guidelines.

The government hopes this new service can reduce the loss of lives and property damage.
