Pattaya — A female 60-year-old motorcyclist died instantly after getting hit by a train while trying to cross the railway.

Sawang Boriboon rescue services and Pattaya police rushed to a railway near Pattaya City 7 School in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi, after being notified of a fatal road accident at 3 PM Friday, October 7th.

Many onlookers were present at the scene where the train Number 284 Phlu Ta Luang-Bangkok was parked. The victim, identified as Mrs. Thongmoh Chanbang, 60, was found dead in the tall grass beside the railway, sustaining multiple severe injuries. Her pink crushed Honda Scoopy motorbike was discovered nearby.

I quite often say that certain people I come across or read of are too stupid to live. Here's another one. Me First!!!

We keep hearing of cars tracks and motorcycles drivers losing their lives trying to out run a train, What is it with Thai drivers always try to duel with trains and always lose? didn't they get the message by now?

Tasteless I know, but the train won out!

every other road user.  They are very competitive and will empty their tank to get one place ahead of you at the next red light.  It's an IQ thing.

Another one bites the dust

Have to feel sorry for the train driver

Just can’t wait , anyway she beat us to the grave

Driving a bike at excessive speed here is an invitation for trouble. Ask yourself one thing. Is my life already complicated enough, without a serious bike accident? Darwin insisted that some species and some members of those species were more fit for survival than others. It would appear the roads here, and especially motorbike riders, are a perfect example of his theories in action.

It takes certain qualities to survive on the roads here. Patience, being very conscious of your surroundings, driving defensively, avoiding excessive speed, especially in town, following basic traffic rules and laws and avoiding being overly stupid, at all times.

99% of the time someone smashes into a parked vehicle, or a train, it is due to a lack of attention, to the very serious, and very dangerous task at hand. Or just sheer stupidity and machismo. Many Thais are extremely casual about driving, and seem to have little understanding of the dangers involved, and the need to be 100% focused, at all times. Especially on a motorbike.

The other 1% is due to a blown tire, an animal running across the road, being cut off by a maniac, etc.

To me; a train always has the right of way.

She may have been someone's granny or mother, aunt or sister. She may have had dementia or was too slow to judge speeds and distances correctly.

Anyway, she doesn't deserve smug comments.

All certainly possibilities as you state and many more but (see news link) she deliberately breached the railroad crossing barrier while other traffic waited for the train to pass. As such she should never have been on the motorcycle. This tragic accident was unnecessary.

???? vs ???? = ???? wins every time.

Where's thumbs down when you need it ?

A 60 year old lady on a Scoopy trying to ‘beat a train’....

IMO this is perhaps a highly misleading headline....  I would suspect that she simply crossed the rail tracks without looking and was hit by the train...

Was the barrier working ?

It could have been that also. Hard to say without witnesses but I myself have seen many, many motorcyclists try and beat the train. It's not too surprising that someone fails.

Tom Cruise would send his bike to the side, flip on the top of the locomotive, run across the top of the train and jump back down on his bike.

I've tried this 100 times.  made it 99.

If you read the link the barrier was down, and vehicles were stopped waiting for the train to pass.

Apparently, she wasn't doing a "Tom Cruise" racing to fly across in front of a speeding locomotive, but just had a need to cross right then.

Totally agree. Absolutely no reason you can think of for her doing this other than impatience.
