Amazing Thailand Festival

Secretts Farm, Chapel Lane, Milford, West Sussex.

Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 25th - Monday 27th August 2007

The UK's most popular Thai event, the biannual festival in Surrey, is fast approaching and this year's extravaganza promises to be better than ever with over 50,000 visitors expected. The event is organised by Mudita Trust, a UK registered Charity supporting the secondary education of girls from some of the poorest villages in Thailand helping prevent them from entering into prostitution and instead using education as a tool in helping them make a better future.

The 6th Amazing Thailand Festival is being held at Secretts, Milford, Surrey and will be dedicated to the 80th Birthday of King Bhumibol, King of Thailand. Visitors to the festival will see hundreds of people donning royal yellow and gathering to celebrate this landmark occasion for the world's longest serving monarch. This year's delicious annual 3-day event will provide an exciting opportunity for everyone to learn more about Thailand's culture. The festival will be blessed by Buddhist monks in the traditional Thai opening ceremony, and then officially opened at 11am. Approximately 30 food stalls will be showcasing traditional Thai dishes, prepared on the spot by chefs from several Thai restaurants in London and beyond. Visitors will have the chance to taste a vast range of delectable Thai dishes including Tom-Yum, curries, aromatic salads and the famous stir-fried noodle dish, Pad-Thai and many more. For the sweeter palate, tempting delicate desserts, exotic fruit juices and herbal drinks will also be available with on site restaurants and supermarket stalls supplying all the ingredients for a Thai feast at home. For those who may have a thirst for something a little stronger a variety of Thai beers and Thai wines will be available in a beer tent and other specific locations around the site.

Over 50 craft stalls, panniers and even a floating market will be joining us this year displaying Thai silks, cottons, handicrafts and fresh orchids, scattered all over the site. Visitors to the authentic Thai market will be greeted by shoulder masseurs, pannier sellers and fortune-tellers. Travel agents and Thai property developers will also join us to make the fifth Amazing Thailand an event for all. Moreover, glittering performances of Thai national dances and martial arts displays will be staged each afternoon culminating in the enchanting Loy Krathong (festival of light) ceremony on Monday evening

A highlight of the weekend will be the cookery demonstrations held twice daily and hosted by Mini C. On completion of each demonstration six volunteers will be selected and invited on stage to recreate one of Minis dishes in a "Cook Off" with the winner receiving a surprise gift. In addition, Thai handicraft and fruit carving demonstrations will astonish and impress, whilst raffles with spectacular prizes and a wishing tree with guaranteed rewards for all will create a fun and festive atmosphere.

Without a doubt, a visit to Amazing Thailand Festival is the most entertaining way for families and friends to spend their August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Amazing Thailand Festival, Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th 11am - 6pm and Monday 27th August From 11am - 8pm.

Entrance: £7.50 adult with one accompanying child free thereafter £3.00 children, free for babies and toddlers. I went to the last event, two years ago.

It was a wonderful weekend, and much bigger than i expected, and well worth going along

Sadly i will miss this year, now living in LOS

I wish the organisers every success.

So they rip you off for £7.50 per adult to then get ripped off for perhaps £7.95 for a very poor quality plate of yam-oonsen or pad thai ? Singha small bottles at perhaps £3.50 or higher ?

A good day for the organisers and the stall holders but precious little in value for money terms for the visitor I suspect, if anything like that one in London.

Does that send out the message that Thaialnd is a value for money holiday destination ? Like heck it does.

come on, it's a nice day out and the profits go to the charity and not to the investors.

don't have to eat and drink if you don't want to

What a Pillock :D , the charity has been running these thai markets and open days, for over 17 years , in the early days it helped to integrate thai,s in the surrey ,sussex area into the local community, in the beginning the food and drinks were donations from local thai businesses, but as it became more popular lots of visitors started abusing the goodwill!! Absolutely no interest in the thai market and Dancing.just using it as a free family sunday lunch, some were even caught filling containers and bags,so the charity started charging entrance fees, as a supporter of the charity , I have lost touch with these good people since we emigrated to Australia, But Mr or Mrs Torrenova you have obviously never been there, most of the food available is donated and cooked by Well established Thai restaurants,Isuggest instead of WHINGEING ,treat yourself, go and have a look :o Nignoy

Just for information folks..

There has been a breakout of Foot and Mouth disease about 10km from the venue. Although no word from the organiser as yet, it may be prudent to check with them and the local authorities before travelling, as there may be restrictions in that area.

The weather is forecast to be good for this weekend, so I will be going on Saturday to get me a Thai top up, then its just a week and a bit until I fly out for real. Hooray :o

Train to Guildford or Godalming then bus or taxi I would assume. I think the bank hol traffic wont be so bad down that bit of the A3

Just in case anyone missed it - the address is Surrey, not West Sussex!

Me, Mrs C and little C will be there. Had a great time two years ago. It is a little pricey, but as has been pointed out this is a non profit charity event with ALL proceeds going to the Mudita Trust. Each adult ticket also enteres you into a prize draw for two return Thai airways tickets!

that 4 people travelling together only have to pay for

2 people.

There is a FREE Shuttle bus service from

milford train station to the festival

running all day'

Been there, done that.

Was very hot day, well by UK standards.

Quite busy, the food stalls were dominant. Not bad overall, sometimes a shock to see UK prices on things you are used to seeing or buying in Bkk at Thai prices.

Overall I am glad I went.

Good to see and hear Thai faces and voices again, glad I am on my way over to Bkk in a few days time.
