The government looks set to back down from its plan to allow wealthy foreign nationals to purchase up to one rai of land for residential purposes in return for investments, the proposal is now being withdrawn.


The idea drew fierce criticism from opponents who claimed the government was selling off the country. 


The NBTC broadcast regulator is due to decide tomorrow on a proposed budget of 1.6 billion baht to fund the payment for the rights to broadcast the World Cup live on domestic television.


Negotiations for a better deal are still underway with the deadline being Nov 20th when the World Cup officially starts and runs until Dec 18.
 

Thailand's department of digital economy is to propose to government a plan to stamp out call centre scams, proxy accounts, fraudulent investments, online gambling and other schemes involving the sale of products online.


The Bank of Thailand will also assist with drafting regulations against cyber crime, which may see sizable financial transfers from overseas placed on hold while being investigated for money laundering.

 

Police have found a large quantity of rifles, handguns, grenades and ammunition at a house in Phuket and home of a retired engineer from New Zealand.


Police say 63 year old Garath Davies is a mechanical engineer capable of making and modifying firearms, he would test weapons in a soundproof area and had silencers for many of the firearms.


Officers said Mr Davies is long term resident in Thailand and had previously worked as an engineer offshore. Police investigations continue.


A deputy district chief of Sattahip handed himself to police yesterday after he was accused of corruption and abuse of authority by demanding money in exchange for issuing homestay property licenses.


Property operators said they had to pay 15,000 baht otherwise their permit would not be approved.


Police have warned people not to fire guns into the air during the Loy Kratong Festival, officer will be on the lookout for illegal weapons and those that do fire into the air risk heavy fines and jail time, particularly if a bullet lands causing injury or death.

Indonesia, an oil tanker that ran aground on 26th October could take a month to re float due to the close vicinity of gas pipelines,  meanwhile the United States slapped sanctions on the vessel for alleged links to Hezbollah and a branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.


The tanker is said to be almost full with almost 2 million barrels of crude oil,
