Muang district police in Pattaya rushed to the Aurora gold shop in Lotus on Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya after an armed robbery, reported Thai Rath.

A Thai man of about 160-170 cms in height dressed in black with an upper garment with orange reflective strips went into the shop yesterday evening.

He was also wearing a jungle hat and carrying a black bag.

He handed over a note to staff who quickly realised the danger and scurried out back.

He grabbed two trays of jewelry that were initially believed to contain 50 baht gold weight in 3 and 5 baht items.

He ran off and jumped on a Honda Wave and rode in the direction of Thepprasit Road.

He dropped one gold chain and his helmet.

A member of the public filmed the getaway.

Lotus security guard Jadet Prachaiyo, 24, said he had not seen the robbery but saw the man running with the trays of gold and gave chase.

But he was stopped in his tracks when the thief pointed the gun at him.

A later report also by Thai Rath quoted staff at the shop as saying that they saw the man milling about the front of the store but thought nothing of it.

Then he entered the store and handed over a note that translated from Thai said:

"I'm in real trouble right now - my mum is sick."

He got away with three baht and two baht weight gold jewelry totalling 34 baht or about 1 million baht in value.

They're not programmed to think...eating and sleeping only.

Is it possible for a single man to mill?

1.

(of a machine) designed to cut or shape metal using a rotating tool.

"I had to take it home and drill it out on the milling machine"

2.

(of people or animals) moving around in a confused mass.

"the milling crowds of guests"
