Warning of serious lung infection caused by smoking e-cigarettes

Thai people are warned about the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes and are being advised not to fall prey to false advertising claiming that they are safe.

Dr. Kajohnsak Kaewjarus, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department, issued the warning after Ramathibodi Hospital recently released a report on serious lung infections, known as E-cigarette, or Vaping Product, Use Associated Lung Injury (EVALI), being caused by thesmoking of electronic cigarettes.

Symptoms of EVALI include a cough, shortness of breath or chest pain. Additionally, gastrointestinal symptoms may develop, including nausea, vomiting, stomach pains and diarrhoea, as well as nonspecific constitutional symptoms like a fever, chills or weight loss.

A vile invention indeed

Maybe they could switch to their kill 2 in 3 with cancer counterparts ?

Damn them, is it less harmful than smoking regular cancer sticks or more so? Personally I think regular cigarettes should be made more harmful to the user to kill these idiots off faster... but have been in favour of the lesser impact of other peoples habits these e-ciggies were supposed to present!

Bloody medical professionals can't make their minds up!

This won't go down well.

Could be a  40 page thread,  a coming. :giggle:

Difficult to do in Thailand where crop burning and un-serviced diesels are allowed.

I presume if someone was to "follow the money" far enough this report would be sponsored by the likes of Philip Morris.   Didn't "medical professionals" back in the day endorse smoking proper cigarettes as being good for your health, whilst on the take from big tobacco?   One day people will wake up and realise they are constantly being lied to, but I don't think that will happen in my lifetime.

It goes without saying that inhaling anything in your lungs is less healthy than not doing so, but I find it very difficult to believe that a vape can come close to competing with the 7000 chemicals (250 known to be harmful) that make up tobacco smoke, yet the focus always seems to be on how "dangerous" vapes are whilst ignoring the dangers of actual smoking.  If they really cared about your health they would simply ban tobacco smoking.

Have to hand it to the tobacco companies though, they have done a good job painting vapes as evil, and not the products they make.   It's quite the achievement that they can legally make and sell literal addictive poison and have governments in their pockets banning (probably much, much safer) competing products that could hit their profit margins.

"Thai people are warned about the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes"

So for non Thai's its OK to smoke them?

How about real cigarettes, no mention, I wonder why?

I'll not ask about PM2.5 then.

Inhaling anything into your lungs is not going to do them any good ????

I did a little research about e cigarettes and was shocked at so called doctors who peddle the so called serious dangers. Compare cigarettes and e cigarettes then you see one that is so dangerous and a killer and the other which is in comparison very safe alternative. Yes some abuse e cigarettes and the illegal vaps  can be dangerous as made in some back kitchen and mixed with god knows what. I tried vap but didn't take to it but I did enjoy it.

If the Tobacco Monopoly would tax e cigs, they would no longer ve deemed hazardous
